Ethnic Food Flair Louisianians are known the world over for their love of food. North Louisiana is no exception. And with Barksdale Air Force Base, numerous colleges and universities and several major healthcare facilities infusing our region with a variety of cultures from around the world, our choices for dining, whether at a restaurant or in our own kitchen, are growing more and more diverse. From Lebanese to Vietnamese, taco truck to Korean lunch counter, your taste buds will not get bored living in North Louisiana (and we haven’t even touched on the many outstanding representations of southern, Cajun, Creole, soul, BBQ, and California-style wine dining that exist in abundance here). Original music by G. Scott Griffin. |

Lacrosse North Louisiana is known as the sportsman’s paradise for its abundance of outdoor sporting opportunities. Over the last decade, lacrosse has grown into an exciting option for athletically-driven youth in North Louisiana. While teams historically had to go to Texas to play, the growth in popularity of the sport is making it more possible for Louisiana teams to stay in the state to play. Get a snapshot of North Louisiana lacrosse and the enthusiastic parents, friends and siblings at the 2009 Louisiana High School Lacrosse League Championship in Shreveport. |

Farmer's Markets It’s no secret that Louisianans like to talk about food, think about food, cook food, paint food, write about food – we LOVE food! One of the best places to witness this passion is at one of the many farmers markets dotting the North Louisiana region. It's not only a place to buy the evening’s supper, it's also a connection to the people growing the food we eat every day (and you might catch a great band). |

Blanc et Noir Marching Society The Mardi Gras season is a festive time of year in North Louisiana, with parades big and small, some for humans, some for our furry friends (the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux has an especially popular parade each year). To get a taste of what Mardi Gras is like in North Louisiana, check out this video of the Blanc et Noir Marching Society, the group that kicks off the family friendly neighborhood parade of the Krewe of Highland in Shreveport every year on the Sunday before Fat Tuesday. The Marching Society, accompanied by the Red & Black Brass Band, leads the procession of floats through the historic Highland neighborhood, revving up the crowd for the oncoming festivities by dancing and greeting friends and neighbors along the way. |
